Don't Ignore Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) demands never-ending attention to give you the same superior results. The number of keyword wars that have been won consistently and decisively may change. But if you know what to do with the aid of SEO, the war is already half-won. Here's what to consider:

Analysis - Analysis of keywords and phrases is the foundation of successful SEO. Focusing time and money on winnable searches versus highly competitive ones will prove to be more cost-effective and result in a much higher return on investment.

Research - It is important to have an idea of what's working in SEO. Awareness of how Bing is different from Google, for instance, can give you an edge over competitors and offer you access to new visitors. Another dynamic area is social media. Knowledge of how and where to concentrate your optimization efforts can lead to success or failure. By doing advance research, you can tell which platform will give optimal results as the difference in user demographics differs greatly among MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.

Tweaking - Google provides a ton of free data. It has tools that will tell you what keywords are ranking, those that drive traffic to your site and those that don't, which pages have been indexed, where inbound links are coming from, and where the problems are on your site. Watching for shifts in keyword tendencies, making adjustments and making sure your site is maintained can make a huge difference in driving both new and repeat traffic to your site.

Testing - Test everything you do in your SEO efforts. What's good at one point may no longer be good. To be sure, always test results. Testing to see where people are going can reveal problem areas that need to be fixed.
