Pay-Per-Click Advertising

Advertising in one way or another is of course the primary way in which businesses attract potential customers. Throughout the ages there have been many different forms of advertising, but one common goal - to get your business noticed by as many people as possible (preferably people who are in your target market.)

Different forms of national press were of course ideal in the early days, such as national newspapers and radio, and then came the invention of what was to temporarily become the greatest advertising medium in history, television. I say temporarily because although for several decades TV ads have been by far the most effective way of advertising, there is now a method that surpasses it.

I am talking of course about the Internet. Over 1.3 billion people worldwide use the Internet, that's around a 6th of the earth's population and you can select who out of those 1.3 billion that you want to sell to, and target your advertisements solely at them. Never before has there been a way to do this so effectively.

Making a website for your company is the most popular way to do this and then set up a pay-per-click campaign on Google. For example, if your company were to sell laptops and you were to set up a pay-per-click advertising campaign on Google, then each time a person searches for laptops, a link to your website would appear as one of the sites that has paid to be there.

The great thing about pay-per-click is exactly what the name suggests, you will only pay a few pennies each time a qualified lead (i.e. someone looking for light bulbs) clicks through to your light bulbs site, so not only is it the most targeted form of advertising, but it is also the most cost effective as you don't simply pay a huge sum of money and hope someone bites like you would with a TV ad, you only pay for each person that comes to your site.
