Make More Money By Adding Adsense To Your Blog Posts

. Thursday, May 7, 2009

It seems that nowadays there aren't any sites on the net that don't have advertisements on them. Why wouldn't you advertise on your site or blog... Why not get paid for your hard work. Not to mention, that glorious yet so unattainable "make money blogging" dream.

The problem with ads being on so many sites is that over time they have become virtually invisible. People are so used to seeing ads everywhere that the ads are ignored more and more often. Adsense is a very honest and straight forward advertiser, their ads aren't flashy and they don't catch your eye, making them even less likely to be click.

If you advertise on your site you now not only have to work on its appearance and content but if you want a decent CTR, you also need to place your ads in the proper "hot spots". A hot spot is an area on your site where an ad will be more likely to get clicked. A great hot spot is right above your posts and under the header, this is the first thing a reader sees when they come across your site. A not so hot spot would be on the sidebar of your blog or around the footer. Here are a few things to remember while placing your ads. Why are people coming to your site? Where is the first place people will look when they are on your site? What areas on your site are likely to be overlooked?

I like to place a leader board ad right underneath my header and above my posts since, as I said before, this the first thing my readers will see. The next spot that is likely to get seen is you blog post. This is the reason people are coming to your blog... to read what you have written. This is the case whether they have bookmarked your site or the found via keywords searched on a search engine. Your visitors will be paying the most attention to your blog posts.

When placing an ad in your post, the best spot would be the upper left hand side, reason being, people read from the top left to the bottom right. This way the first thing the reader will see, when they start reading your post, is your advertisement. After a slight adjustment to your blogs HTML, your posts should all look like the image below.

This adjustment uses Blogger's internal "ads between posts" option. The first thing you need to do is click on the edit html tab in your blogger dashboard. Make sure to click on "expand widget templates" as shown in the image below.

Search the html code below and delete it.

Follow the instructions in the image below to ad the new code. If you have trouble seeing this image, simply click on it to enlarge.

That's it, you now have ads in your blogger blog posts. If you like, there are a few parts of the code that can be adjusted. Change the code : "float:left;margin" to "float:right;margin" to have your ads on the right side of your post instead of the left. You can also adjust the size of the ads by changing "width:200px;height:200px" to what ever size ad you like.

Remember, this particular edit uses blogger's in line ad configuration to place the ads. Click on layout from your blogger dashboard. Click edit blog post and choose the type of adsense ad you want to use. Make sure the code in your blog's HTML matches the size ad you plan on using. Don't forget to click on "show ads between posts" See the images below for an example.

By adding ads into your blog posts you should be able to raise your CTR and and increase the income you make off the the traffic you are currently receiving.

Good Luck,

Boosting Your Link Popularity

What Is Link Popularity?

If you are unfamiliar with this term, it means exactly what it sounds like it would. Your link popularity is the total amount of links from other sites that point to yours, also known as a backlink. You may have heard of the term backlink, the more back links you have the greater your link popularity.

Are All Backlinks Created Equal?

Backlinks are the only way to build your link popularity but receiving links from sites that are unrelated to yours won't do you much good. If you own a site about sports memorabilia and you trade a link with a site that deals with pet food don't expect much of a boost. When searching for backlinks your goal should be to find sites that would be indexed in the same category as your site on Google. Another tip in building your link popularity is using anchored text in your links to create an anchored link. An anchored link is a link that points to your site where your keywords are used in the text (the text that you click on). Backlinks from sites with higher page ranks count much more towards boosting your link popularity than sites with lower page ranks. This doesn't mean that you should be upset if a site with a PR of 0 links to you. Remember there are no bad backlinks, they just won't have as much of an effect on your link popularity.

Why Do You Want To Build Your Link Popularity?

There is a very simple answer to that question. Simply, the more backlinks you have the more likely you will be to climb up in Google's serps. We all know what this means, the higher up you are ranked the more pageviews your site will get. Whether you are in it for money or glory we all want the same thing, our sites and blogs to succeed.

This may seem like a lot of work to do, who knew building a website would be so hard. Don't give up and keep using SEO properly, you will see results over time.

Good Luck,

Do ants scratch their asses, lets find out. I recently came across an article written a well known SEO guru. In this post he suggests that in order to be properly indexed by Google and ranked highly in the serps, you must use SEO properly. A key element of SEO is applying keywords. He also suggests that most of the more popular search strings are very crowed with sites and blogs much bigger than yours and that if you wanted to start a successful site you might want to try to rank it in a less cluttered niche. A niche, maybe like "do ants scratch their asses". He was using this purely as a humorous example of course. Never the less, bloggers have already begun climbing the serp ranks using the keywords do ants scratch their asses. I intend to prove that ants to scratch their asses by stealing the number one spot.

Below is the keyword density for the top ranking site for the search terms "do ants scratch their asses".

If keywords do make a dramatic difference in the way you rank, if use those keywords more densely, I should climb higher than in the ranks. As of the moment these are my top three keywords. Look at my posts keyword density.

Who knows if ants really do scratch their asses? Have you ever seen an ant scratch it's ass? If you wanted to could you ask an ant,"Do ants scratch their asses". If you studied ants how could you prove that ants scratch their asses? Even if you could prove that ants scratch there asses, maybe the question you should ask yourself is, does anyone really care if ants scratch their asses. Ask yourself, do you even care if ants scratch their asses. That is the point, no one does care if ants scratch their asses or not. This just proves that unless you use SEO properly you will never rank well, so start learning.

Whether you have started your website or blog to make money or because you simply want to share your view and opinions with the world. Either way you want the world to see it, everyone wants people to view there site.

Promoting Your Site
You can use social mediums such as stumbleupon or digg to promote your website, this can become extremely time consuming and tedious. The easiest and most effective way to get pageviews is through search engines. There are so many sites out there that if you want to rank high enough in any given search to have people see your website, you need to optimize it for search engines, this is called SEO. One of the most important factors in SEO is proper use of keywords.

Optimizing With Keywords
Keywords are the most common words used to describe what your site is about. If you are still unsure about keywords, just imagine you were someone looking for a site just like yours, what word or words would you use to search for it. The words used most commonly used to search for certain things are keywords. If you have a blog about dog breeding you may use keywords like dog, canine and puppy. You might also want to use keyword strings like breeding dogs, canine breeding, new born puppies.

SEO Over Optimization
When you are optimizing your site with some solid keywords. You be careful not to over optimize your website. Over optimization occurs when people use a keyword too often. There should be no keywords or keyword strings that appears on your site or any given post on your site more than six to seven percent of the time. You should also avoid using the same keyword too densely in any given part of your website. For example, you have made your first dog breeding post and it contains four paragraphs, each of these paragraphs contain four sentences. The keyword dog makes up only five percent of your post but only in the first paragraph, this is an example of over using SEO. If your site is over optimized there is a chance it could be considered a spam site and that search engine bots could completely over look it or even mark it to be banned.

If you want to increase pageviews to your site you must learn to use SEO and push your site as high up in the search engines page ranks as possible. Below I have posted a tool to check your keyword density. Use this tool to make sure that you are using the correct keywords for your particular niche and that your site isn't over optimized.
